WordPopup ("the Extension") is a browser extension that helps users improve their vocabulary while reading on the web. It provides dictionary definitions, pronunciation information, examples, saved vocabulary, and lookup history.
WordPopup processes words that users select or look up using the Extension.
When a user selects a word for dictionary lookup, the selected word may be sent to third-party dictionary services to retrieve definition, pronunciation, example, and related vocabulary information.
WordPopup does not intentionally collect names, email addresses, passwords, payment information, authentication credentials, or other personally identifiable information.
To provide dictionary functionality, WordPopup may send the selected word to third-party dictionary services, including:
These services are used solely to retrieve vocabulary information requested by the user.
When a user chooses to save a word, WordPopup stores the saved word and related dictionary information locally in the user's browser.
WordPopup also maintains a local lookup history so that users can access previously looked-up words through the Extension.
Saved words and lookup history are stored using the browser's local extension storage and are not used for advertising or user tracking.
WordPopup requires access to webpages so that it can detect text selected by the user, display the dictionary popup, and highlight words that the user has previously saved.
WordPopup does not use webpage access to intentionally monitor, record, or sell the user's browsing activity.
Information processed by WordPopup is used only to provide the Extension's vocabulary-related functionality, including:
WordPopup does not sell user data.
Selected words may be transmitted to the third-party dictionary services described above when the user requests a dictionary lookup. This transmission is necessary to provide the requested dictionary functionality.
WordPopup does not share user information with advertisers or use user data for targeted advertising.
Saved words and lookup history are stored locally in the user's browser. Users can remove saved words and clear their local extension data by using the Extension's functionality or removing the Extension and its associated browser storage.
Words sent to third-party dictionary services are handled according to those services' respective privacy policies and data-retention practices.
WordPopup is designed to limit data processing to what is necessary for its vocabulary functionality. We do not operate a separate backend database containing users' saved vocabulary or lookup history.
WordPopup does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
